How to Post Photos

Photo must be on a server for it to view in a message. Just being on your pc won't work. Only you can view photos on your pc. Servers allow anyone connected to the internet to view photos. All photos have an internet address (where the file is stored on the internet). If you are viewing a photo from the internet and would like to post it on this board, here's how.
What is a URL address?
Every photo on the internet has a URL address. For example the photo posted below in this message has the URL address of: http://fishtradewinds.com/ocracoke/2.jpg With your mouse, right click on the photo and select properties. A dialog box will open, showing you the URL address of the photo file. You should see: http://fishtradewinds.com/ocracoke/2.jpg You will need this URL address to post the photo. Notice that the URL address begins with "http://". This is standard.
How do I post the photo?
To post the photo in a message you must first post the URL address of the photo into the Optional Image URL form window. To post this photo, you would type into the Optional Image URL window the following: http://fishtradewinds.com/ocracoke/2.jpg. Since http:// already appears in the form window, you need to erase that part so you dont duplicate it. http://http://fishtradewinds.com/ocracoke/2.jpg will not work You can also copy a URL of a photo by right clicking on the URL, pick "select all" (the URL will highlight). Now right click on it again while it's highlighted and select "copy". This stores the URL address into your pc's memory for posting. This way you dont have to retype it, which could cause mistakes. Next you right click once in the Optional Image URL Window and then select paste. Again, make sure that you have first erased the existing http:// that's already in the window, so you dont have a duplication which would cause it not to work.
How do I preview the photo in my message?
Click on the preview message button at the bottom of the form windows. The next screen that comes up will preview your message, and if you have done everything right, your photo also. If you only see a white square with a red x in it then you have probably not typed in or pasted in your photo URL address correctly. In this case just recheck things and try again.
Note: Over 90 percent of the servers on the internet, will serve photos linked through messages boards. However there are some servers that only allow a direct connection to their photo files and thus only produce red x's when posting them to a board. When that happens, there's not much you can do about it.
